Take Action: Agriprocessors: The Modern Day Jungle

Agriprocessors: The Modern Day Jungle

Agriprocessors, a slaughterhouse in Postville, Iowa, has a long and troubling history of health and safety violations. In recent weeks, the heart-wrenching stories of worker mistreatment took an even darker and more disturbing turn as incidents of child labor, sexual exploitation, and physical abuse have been made public.

Yet, for all of these examples of exploitation, discrimination and abuse, the Federal Government has not charged the plant management with a single crime — and certain retailers continue to put money in the owners' pockets by purchasing Agriprocessors' products.

TAKE ACTION TO REMOVE AGRIPROCESSORS!

Dear Publix Super Markets:

After learning about the serious and ongoing issues at Agriprocessors, I am writing to ask Publix to remove Agriprocessors' products from its stores.

News reports have highlighted allegations ranging from child labor abuses and sexual improprieties to violence against its employees and paying workers far below the minimum wage.

Eighteen incidents of juveniles working in the company's plant in Postville, Iowa - some as young as 13 years old - have already been made public, and government officials have confirmed that a separate child labor probe is underway.

As a reminder, Agriprocessors makes products under the following brand names: Aaron's Best, Aaron's Choice, European Glatt, Iowa Best Beef, Nevel, Shor Habor, Rubashkin's, Supreme Kosher, and David's.

We think you have the opportunity to show that you value good corporate citizenship by purchasing alternative products.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
